Desmond and his high school sweetheart were married in 1996, and have seven wonderful children, and one son-in-law. Desmond was born and raised in South Africa, where he initially studied and worked in the civil engineering field. In 2001 he left SA to study for his MDiv at The Master’s Seminary.
In 2004 he returned to SA for pastoral ministry serving in 2 churches, Christ Baptist Church
(2004-2008), and Grace Baptist Church (2008-2023). Desmond completed his DMin from TMS in2020. In 2023 the Venter family relocated to Springdale, Arkansas to serve as Senior Pastor at Fellowship Bible Church.
In his spare time Desmond enjoys running, reading, and hanging out with the kiddos.
TED JOHNSON
SENIOR PASTOR, BIBLE CHURCH OF OWASSO
Ted has been the preaching pastor since our founding in 2007. His ministry emphasizes careful verse-by-verse exposition of the Bible and encouragement to actively live out the faith and share the good news of Jesus with the world around. Ted was an industrial engineer for seven years prior to feeling compelled to preach God’s Word and help lead His church full-time. Before coming to The Bible Church of Owasso, Ted earned a Master of Divinity from The Master’s Seminary and served for three years as an Associate Pastor at Tulsa Bible Church.
Ted’s wife, Beth, is the love of his life and his helper in the ministry. Ted and Beth love living in Owasso and are blessed to have three children. Ted enjoys being outdoors, reading, competitive sports, family time, and spending time with other believers.
TIM GIBSON
TEACHING PASTOR, JOURNEY BIBLE CHURCH, BROKEN ARROW OK
Tim was raised in a Christian home in Guymon, Oklahoma where he was saved at the age of nine. He is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and has earned a Doctorate of Ministry from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. For more than 20 years, Tim has been serving in pastoral ministry and is currently the pastor of Journey Bible Church in Broken Arrow.
He has been married to his best friend Julie since 1993 and the Lord has blessed them with four children. Tim loves to proclaim the truth of God’s Word and see the Lord transform sinners by the love and power of Jesus Christ!
MIKE FANNING
PASTOR, SAPULPA BIBLE CHURCH – SAPULPA, OK
Mike began ministering to young people in 1987. In 2000, he earned the Master of Divinity from The Master’s Seminary in Southern California. He has been pastor of Sapulpa Bible Church since June, 2000.
Mike is very much in love with Jesus Christ. He is firmly committed to book by book and verse by verse expositional teaching and preaching.
Mike has been married to his lovely wife Karen since 1988. They have four grown children, and a growing number of precious grandchildren.
MAX MEGEE
ASSOCIATE PASTOR, BIBLE CHURCH OF OWASSO
Max serves as associate pastor over the Forge Flock and Outreach ministry. The Lord saved him at the age of fifteen through the influence of faithful youth mentors and expository preaching. Max attended the University of Arkansas and afterward pursued a career in electrical engineering for four years in Dallas, TX. During that time, the Lord grew Max’s desire for full-time ministry, and Max left his engineering career to attend The Master’s Seminary, where he completed the Master of Divinity program in May 2023. Max loves to teach the Scriptures, proclaim the glories of Christ, and build men up through sound theology.
During seminary, Max met and married his wife, Hillary. They are expecting their first child in November 2023. Max loves to read, compete in sports and board games, hunt, fish, and backpack. Both Max and Hillary love animals and hope to be able to raise several animals in the future.
FAQ
CAN I REGISTER THE DAY OF THE SUMMIT?
No. Registration is online only. A limited number of materials are printed or purchased in advance of the conference. Also, food must be purchased in advance. We want to be sure every registrant is fed and equipped to the best of our ability.
ARE THERE ID OR MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER THE EVENT?
Ironmen Summit Owasso is designed as a “men only” conference. Although there is no official age limit, we would suggest a minimum age of 15…however, fathers may exercise their own judgement as to the maturity level of their own sons.
WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH MY REGISTRATION?
Registration includes admission to the conference, as well as breakfast and lunch served on site. Coffee and bottled water will also be available throughout the day. Each attendee will also receive a couple of free books, as well as a conference notebook when they check in.
WHAT ARE MY TRANSPORTATION / PARKING OPTIONS FOR GETTING TO AND FROM THE EVENT?
Parking will be available at the conference site and immediate area. Parking Assistants will direct you as you approach the conference location. Owasso is located approximately 10 miles north of Tulsa, OK.
WHAT CAN I BRING TO THE EVENT?
Definitely bring a prepared heart to be encouraged and challenged to live as the father, son, and/or husband God has called you to be. We would also encourage you to bring a Bible in some form (e.g. physical or electronic). Free pens and commemorative notebooks will be available, but you may want to bring your own for note taking, etc.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE?
Not really. Business casual to casual is fine. We would suggest bringing a jacket, just in case. Oklahoma weather– especially in February– is anyone’s guess.
HOW CAN I CONTACT THE ORGANIZER WITH ANY QUESTIONS?
Questions should be sent directly to:
Keith Whitfield
Email: ironmenowasso@gmail.com
WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?
Full refunds are available up to two (2) days prior to the event. We understand that “life happens,” so if you have a situation that prevents you from attending, that falls within that time period, please contact us. We will work with you to come up with an agreeable solution.
